It’s been a little while since we last heard from Tokyo-based rapper AKKOGORILLA. It was late 2018 when she made her big-time mark with her debut major album “GRRRLISM”, but since then things have been relatively quiet — until today. Dropped via AKKOGORILLA’s official YouTube channel, the latest “Kaisenzeya” music video comes just days before the final stop on the ongoing “GRRRLISM” nationwide tour.
I’ve been listening to AKKOGORILLA for quite some time now, and to date, “Kaisenzeya” is probably her most pop release. With a much heavier focus on harmonies and structure than what many fans are perhaps familiar with, the song definitely stands in somewhat of direct contrast to most of AKKOGORILLA’s previous releases. This also marks AKKOGORILLA’s first release of 2019, so it’ll be interesting to see how she proceeds throughout the rest of the year.
With the final leg of AKKOGORILLA’s ongoing “GRRRLISM” release tour set to take place on March 26 at CLUB QUATTRO Shibuya, this is definitely an interesting time to drop “Kaisenzeya”. But for those planning on catching the live show, this does mean that you will get to see it performed live before anyone else — though it will be interesting to see how it fits in with the rest of AKKOGORILLA’s performance. Details on that show can be found below:
