Now that we’re all suffering through a worldwide pandemic that shows no signs of letting up any time soon, the idea of more Baki is one of the only things helping me hold onto my sanity. The follow up to the excellent Netflix original was announced over a year ago but we only our first real taste of Baki Season 2 early last month. As of now, the second season of anime’s craziest martial arts excursion’s set to hit Netflix worldwide on June 4th, but with all the delays hitting various productions don’t be too surprised if it gets pushed back further.
All things considered, if Netflix is rolling out the Baki Season 2 opening now we probably don’t have to worry too much about delays. WIth GRANRODEO providing a stripped-down and straight forward classic JROCK sound to the opening that puts passion over spectacle, the intro queues up the bare-knuckle and big muscle brawls with a fitting zeal. This time around Baki, Retsu Kaioh, and the rest of the series’ eclectic madman warriors are making their way to China to participate in a whole new tournament. If the opening’s anything to go by, we might get to see the legendary Yujiro Hanma throw down too.
The third anime adaptation of Keisuke Itagaki’s legendary Baki manga gets it right. Unabashed grotesque muscle porn coupled with more poetry and grace than most romance series could ever dream of having, the comic has been keeping Japanese readers entertained for well over 100 volumes and counting in its near 30-year run. What made this latest anime so great was that it accurately captured Baki’s manic action yet retained its more subtle charms. We hope TMS Entertainment will be keeping up the quality in Baki Season 2.
Baki Season 2 is set to come out exclusively on Netflix June 4.
