International fans of Netflix’s BEASTARS will have to wait a little bit longer before they can watch Season 2 of the anime series. The show’s second season will not make it outside of Japan until July 2021, Netflix announced on Wednesday.
The news was tweeted out by @NXOnNetflix as part of a very weird, low-budget promo for Season 1 of the series.
What happens when you ask @Studio_188_ to recreate the iconic Beastars intro with very few resources? Pure magic. Oh, and the second season of Beastars debuts worldwide July 2021! pic.twitter.com/5MYHhs1fdb

The Twitter announcement was certainly more creative than the official announcement on the BEASTARS website. The Japanese announcement simply states that exclusive distribution of the series will reach ‘more than 190 countries.’ It adds that more details will be announced in the future.
The unique and imaginative anthropomorphic series announced a second season in August, and a trailer for the series came out in November. However, the announced date was only for the Japanese release of the series, which will arrive on 5 January 2021.
In the meantime, BEASTARS fans outside of Japan will have to decide if they want to avoid the inevitable spoilers when season 2 starts in Japan. At the end of the twelfth and final episode of the first season, Legoshi finally confessed to Haru that he loves her. After the credits, he also greets a mysterious, unknown character, which certainly leaves something of a cliffhanger. Clearly, there’s still a lot left to resolve before we reach the end of the series.
The series is based on a manga by Paru Itagaki, which ended in October 2020.
