I’ll admit I’m a little slow on this one, but this is definitely a track that deserves some signal boosting. I’ve never been shy about how much I vibe with Japanese rap duo chelmico in the past, and their latest tie-in single “Sokebicha No Rap” is no exception. Released in celebration of Japanese Jasmine tea brand Sokenbicha’s 25th-anniversary, the collaboration honestly feels pretty onboard with what you’d expect from chelmico and is definitely a smooth way to enter their musical year.
While chelmico’s latest “Sokenbicha No Rap” is only one of four parts to Sokenbicha’s celebrations, officially dubbed ‘Sokenbicha My Inspiration’, it’s definitely one that I’m grateful for. Clocking in at just over three minutes, the track combines chelmico’s signature flow and lyricism with the classic sounds of Haruo Chikada’s composition creating something that feels equal parts fresh as it does memorable.
With a fresh coat of paint over on their official website, this might not be the last time we hear of chelmico throughout this year. Following on the heels of their major debut album “POWER” from last year, you’d almost expect that chelmico has something big in the works, and I can’t wait to see what it is. If this is the start of what chelmico has planned for 2019, then I think we’re definitely in for a good year.
Available now via all major streaming services, those interested in checking out more from chelmico can head over to the duo’s official website.
