From now until Sept. 4, Detective Conan Cafe is selling some of its leftovers.

These Detective Conan character items were made for this year’s pop-up cafe, which celebrated Gosho Aoyama’s mystery-solving boy detective.

However, they are now available from Detective Conan Cafe’s online store, found here.

The items include button badges, acrylic keychains, magnets, bangles, pin badges, clear files and acrylic stand-up figures. They also offer BIC pens, notebooks, playing cards, bandages, tote bags, smartphone covers, drinking glasses, mugs, etc.

The pop-up cafe was supposed to have been a cute promotion for the 2020 movie, Detective Conan: the Scarlet BulletThe cafe had the theme of Home Party at Dr. Agasa’s House.

The menu included Detective Conan-inspired dishes such as APTX4869 Beef Curry. The curry was served in a container shaped like the poison pill which de-aged the hero. Other menu choices included Ai Haibara’s Healthy Sweets Basket, and Conan’s Voice-Changing Bowtie Cream Soda.

The Detective Conan franchise had already done cafes in previous years, typically promoting that year’s new movie.  The Scarlet Bullet will be the 24th film.

COVID-19 is the Culprit

This year’s cafe was announced in February, with all of the typical fanfare. They opened 12 locations throughout Japan. These were spread out from Hokkaido to Okinawa, including several in the Tokyo area and a couple in Osaka.

Then COVID-19 struck. In early April, the cafe announced a temporary closure of all of its locations because of the virus.

The movie was also delayed. They eventually decided to push it back to April 2021.

In June, some of the cafes began selling takeout food and items — no dining in the cafe.

The reopening process continued at the end of June. They announced that some cafes would offer limited seating for in-store dining starting on July 1.

After about a month of social-distanced and sanitized dining, the last Detective Conan Cafe of the year closed on Aug. 16.
