After nearly eight years of successful publication, Yasuda Tsuyoshi’s popular sports manga DAYS is about to come to its inevitable conclusion. Its 285th and final chapter will be published in the next issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, which will be released next Wednesday, 20 January. In addition, an illustration of DAYS will be grabbing a spot on the front cover, and have five of the chapter’s 40 pages be printed in full color.
The news broke in this week’s edition of Weekly Shonen Magazine. Later on, Tsuyoshi made an announcement via Twitter saying that there will be a follow-up gift project planned out for the future.
Ever since it was launched back in 2013, DAYS has been proven to be a smashing success. It was nominated for the best shonen manga at the 39th Kodansha Manga Awards back in 2015, falling short to The Seven Deadly Sins. DAYS would finally win the award the following year where it surprisingly beat out the colossal titan that is Boku no Hero Academia. The first 39 volumes have sold an estimated 10 million copies during its nearly decade-long run as of August 2020, and its 41st volume was released just last December.
DAYS’ popularity would warrant a twenty-four episode anime adaptation from MAPPA covering the manga’s first ten volumes, running from July 2016 to December 2016. A trilogy of OVAs detailing the next three tankobon volumes would follow two years later.
So far, no news has surfaced for a third season, although considering that some anime eventually get another season after a long period of waiting, it’s fair to say that DAYS fans should still keep their hopes up.
