Latest ‘Death Stranding’ Offering Highlights Gameplay, How Much Norman Reedus Can Pee

Latest Death Stranding Offering Highlights Gameplay

Without a doubt the most anticipated game of the year, Hideo Kojima’s upcoming Death Stranding had a huge showing at the 2019 Gamescom event. During the event’s opening live show, Kojima unveiled three new trailers that each focus on a different aspect of the game, like one going into Guillermo Del Toro’s character Deadman. Honestly, we could do an article on each new trailer but what I want to focus on is this huge clip showing off a chunk of new gameplay footage. We’ve seen a lot of different character and cinematic trailers, so much so that I’ve purposefully not watched a few because I want to be surprised as possible when the game finally drops in November, but I’m happy to take in more actual gameplay.

Anyone who half-jokingly called Death Stranding a walking simulator, well, the latest gameplay footage will only further that take. However, we get an extended clip of the game’s urination mechanic, which Kojima clarified at the opening event that you’ll Norman Reedus will always turn away from the camera when pissing. The trailer shows off a bit more of the absolutely gorgeous environment and I’m absolutely delighted by this ladder than Reedus materializes out of thin air to scale a cliff.

As someone who has negative feelings towards Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I’m still only cautiously optimistic about Death Stranding. It looks like it’ll be an event for sure with all the weirdness and notable actors hand-chosen by Kojima to be involved with the project. However, even with all the blame that’s owed to Konami for The Phantom Pain, it was Kojima who wanted Sutherland to voice Snake and Troy Baker to portray Ocelot, which really took away from the Metal Gear Solid part of that game. However, being an entirely new project where Kojima’s getting the budget and creative direction he deserves, this’ll at least turn out to be a more interesting experience.

Death Stranding comes to PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019.
