The original Digimon Adventure anime series will get a massive Blu-ray box on 6 March 2021.
While Digimon lost the battling monster war to rival Pokémon, there are still a lot of people who can tell you why Digimon was better. (Better characters, more interesting story arcs, more character development, bigger and better threats and challenges, better overall themes, etc.) This box set is for all of the Digimon fans out there in the digital world.
The box set will feature 18 discs. Those discs will contain the entire 1999 Digimon Adventure series, and its sequel, Digimon Adventure 02, for a total of 104 episodes. It will also include four Digimon movies. However, it does not include the 20th anniversary Digimon Adventure reboot series, which came out in April 2020.
Digimon Movies
The four Digimon movies included in this box set are: the original Digimon Adventure movie (1999); Digimon Adventure: Our War Game! (2000); the two-part Digimon Adventure 02: Digimon Hurricane Landing!!/ Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals (2000); and Revenge of Diaboromon (a.k.a. Diablomon’s Counterattack).
The first two movies were directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who would go on to direct The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Mirai, and other films.
Incidentally, Saban Entertainment and Fox Kids combined and adapted the first three movies into Digimon: The Movie for the U.S. market.
Bonuses
According to the Digimon Adventure website, the box set has been digitally remastered for HD images. It will come with a special booklet re-edited from the 15th anniversary editions of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02. The three-sided box will also have new art on it.
Several versions of the box set will include different bonuses, depending upon where you buy: Amazon Japan will include a wall tapestry. Animate will give out a microfiber towel; and Animate mail order will also include two acrylic picture blocks. Rakuten Books will have an acrylic stand; Seven Net Shopping will have an acrylic plate; Tsutaya Records will give a clear file. And finally, AmiAmi Online Shop will have canvas art.
This is a Japan release, but Amazon Japan and others will ship Blu-ray discs outside of Japan.
