If you have been with us for any amount of time, you likely know that we love the EVANGELION series. On top of this, we’re just around the corner from the release of the final EVANGELION movie, EVANGELION 3.0+1.0. When I woke up this morning, I found something in my email that honestly kind of took me by surprise: the upcoming EVANGELION movie will be getting midnight showings throughout all of Japan. If you can think of a better way to kick off the new year, I challenge you to do so, because I certainly can’t.
Normally movies in Japan don’t get a midnight release. Sure, there have been midnight showings in the past, and honestly, the only one that I can think of that I have seen in recent time is the release of Avengers: End Game. Unlike America or other parts of the world, midnight showings just aren’t hugely popular here and a lot of the movies that are big-name titles such as EVANGELION tend to have their tickets sold on a pre-sale basis which sell out in record times. So, the movie getting a midnight release is certainly a big deal. Even better, it’s not just Tokyo that gets to celebrate in these festivities, as midnight viewings will be happening in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.
The release of the final EVANGELION movie is a huge happening and anime fans throughout Japan and the world are going to be looking to see the movie as soon as they can. I mean they’ve only waited for what, thirteen plus years to do so?
EVANGELION 3.0+1.0 will be releasing in theaters across Japan on 23 January 2021, and presales for the tickets kick off on 13 January 2021 at midnight.
