Upcoming Fate/Grand Carnival OVA Looks Like Carnival Phantasm Sequel

A new Fate/Grand Order anime series will arrive in June, and this one will involve chibi cats. As some had already predicted, the new Fate/Grand Carnival will be an OVA spin-off gag series.

Type-Moon announced the series during the Fate Project New Year’s Eve TV Special 2020.

Judging from the promo video, key visuals, and other information on the new website, it does look a lot like a sequel to the 2011 OVA Carnival Phantasm. That parody series tossed together characters from several Type-Moon franchises, and placed them into silly situations. It was released to celebrate Type-Moon’s 10th anniversary. Ten years later, the time is clearly ripe for another ‘carnival.’

Here’s what we know about the new OVA so far:

Fate/Grand Carnival will be divided into two short ‘seasons,’ with the first one arriving in June and the second one in August. The first will feature the ‘First Singularity Feast, Heroic Limit Festival Olympia.’ Apparently, an increase in servants is causing problems.

Super Affection, the opening theme for Carnival Phantasm, will return as the OP for Grand Carnival. The theme will be performed by members of the cast.

The huge cast will include Akira Sekine as Ritsuka Fujimaru, Rie Takahashi as Mash Kyrielight/ Shielder, Maaya Sakamoto as Leonardo da Vinci/ Caster, and Sakura Tange as Nero Claudius/ Caster.

Joji Nakata, Ai Nonaka, Ayako Kawasumi, and Atsuko Tanaka are also listed as ‘Mysterious Cat’ V, W, X, and Y. In the original Carnival Phantasm, Nakata was Neco Arc Chaos, and Tanaka was Neco Arc Destiny.

Blu-ray and DVD

Aniplex will release Blu-ray discs and DVDs for the first season of Fate/Grand Carnival on 2 June. Those who buy the limited edition will also get a memorial book, theme song CD, and drawn character design/ jacket specifications. The second season will come out on 25 August.

Fate fans who buy both seasons will also receive special bonus items, depending upon where they purchase: Animate, Amazon, Gamers, Tsutaya, Rakuten, etc. These bonuses will include clear files, bags, tapestries, acrylic figures, and key chains. As always, these are only available ‘while supplies last.’
