If you’ve been following us for some time now, you surely know that we love Gundam here at OTAQUEST. From the anime series, manga, to the life-size Unicorn Gundam that protects the city of Tokyo by standing tall in Odaiba, Gundam runs through our blood. One thing that we have been looking forward to more than anything is the official opening of the GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA that is home to the world’s first walking life-size Gundam. That day is almost upon us and to celebrate the occasion, The official Japan Travel Agency or NTA has announced that they are going to be doing limited-time tours of the GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA location.
GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA is a facility where visitors can experience the dream of moving an 18-meter life-size Gundam in Yokohama. It consists of two areas: the “GUNDAM-DOCK” deck, which houses a “moving Gundam” and also allows for maintenance work, and the “GUNDAM-LAB” area, which includes an exhibition facility where visitors can enjoy learning about the workings of the “moving Gundam”. The “GUNDAM-DOCK” area also has a special viewing deck, the “GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER”, where visitors can see the head and body of the “moving Gundam” up close and personal at a height of 15 to 18 meters.
The Japan Travel Agency tours will start on December 19th and run through March 31st. Tickets for the tour go on sale on October 30th at 3 pm Japan Standard Time. I don’t know about you, but it’s things like this that really make me happy to live in Japan and I look forward to being able to go to the GUNDAM FACTORY Tour and witness magic when the Gundam takes it’s first “official” steps. I put “official” in quotes because it’s been walking for some time now and has even had videos of it posted online, but that doesn’t really count now, does it?
