It was announced quietly via the official Gundam Youtube Channel that the ambitious project to make an 18 meter (almost 60 feet) tall Gundam move is pushing forward with GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA for the 40th year anniversary of the series. Expected to be at the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama, it will play home to what is being dubbed as “GUNDAM-DOCK” and “GUNDAM-LAB”. The exhibit is going to be there for a whole year, so if you’re not a resident of Japan, you still have plenty of time to plan out a trip to the Tokyo area (Yokohama is a stone’s throw away) and visit the GUNDAM-DOCK.
Aside from the moving Gundam, there are also slated to be spaces for shops and talk shows among other events. The second portion of the venue is the GUNDAM-LAB building where fans and on-lookers can learn about Gundam as well as what went into making the life-size Gundam move. If that’s not enough for you, there are also events planned to be happening in the months of July and August on Saturdays and Sundays where you can go to Yamashita Pier and visit the “GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA Special Experience” which allows attendees to climb the Gundam Viewing Space of GUNDAM-TOWER! Of course, it wouldn’t be a special event if there weren’t special goods being offered to attendees of the exhibition. Details of the goods have not been made public yet, but you can be sure that they will be available on the official site once they are announced.
As a resident of Tokyo and a fan of enormous robots, I will certainly make my way over to Yokohama to see the spectacle of the life-size moving Gundam. It’s something that’s just too amazing to pass up. I went to see the Unicorn Gundam which is currently stationed in Odaiba as well as it’s predecessor and it blew me away. It moves, but not to the effect that will be in the GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA. It’s honestly something that I can’t wait for. We’ll do our best to keep you updated here on Otaquest with the most up to date information regarding GUNDAM FACTORY YOKOHAMA, so keep it locked!
