Hideaki Anno, a man who has been involved in some of the most legendary works in the anime world, has turned 60 years old today.
Studio Khara took to twitter to wish him a happy birthday and share a few images of him in a special custom 60th birthday t-shirt that they had made up. The shirt features the Ultraman logo in silver against a red shirt with “Hideaki Anno 60th Birthday” printed below. It’s no secret that Anno is a huge Ultraman fan, and he’s attached to the upcoming Shin Ultraman film, so it’s a very fitting gift. Anno himself retweeted the photos, which show him making Ultraman’s post-transformation pose, joking that he’s eternally 10 years old in his heart.

As if he needs any proof for that statement, if you haven’t seen it, check out his 1983 short film The Return of Ultraman in which he performs as the titular hero (albeit not in full costume).
We want to join in wishing Mr. Anno a happy birthday! His works both as a director and an animator have had a positive impact on so many people around the world and are eternally cemented as favorites amongst our staff. We won’t have to wait too much longer for his next work with the final Rebuild of Evangelion film on the horizon, and we’ll always happily anticipate whatever he works on next.
Here’s to his good health, and we hope he had a chance to spend his 60th sharing a beer with close friends.
