Uniqlo is not only known for their super affordable clothing that hits on a different level, but they are also known widely for their ambitious UT collaboration project. UT is all about teaming with a bunch of different designers to bring a new style of clothing and give it that high-fashion appeal with a more modest price point. Today, the company announced that they will be doing a collaboration UT project with none other than Haruki Murakami. The collaboration is called Haruki Murakami / Murakami Radio UT collection, and will be kicking off on 15 March 2021.
Haruki Murakami was born in Kyoto, Japan, in 1949, and graduated from the First Department of Literature of Tokyo’s Waseda University. His debut novel Hear the Wind Sing was published in 1979, and his novel Norwegian Wood (1987) became a worldwide bestseller. Murakami’s other notable works include Kafka on the Shore and 1Q84.
The new UT collaboration takes inspiration from the memorable phrases and striking cover designs of six of his novels that have been particularly praised in Japan and around the world (Pinball 1973, Norwegian Wood, Dance Dance Dance, Sputnik Sweetheart, Kafka on the Shore, and 1Q84) and incorporates the designs into T-shirts. The lineup also includes designs with illustrations of the cat featured on Murakami Radio, the music program that Murakami himself produces and hosts, and other items reflecting his unique sensibility.
The lineup will feature several T-shirts, pins, and stickers that will be available at Uniqlo locations worldwide. If you’re a fan of Haruki Murakami, these items might be something that you need to include into your collection. As with most of the UT collaboration products, once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.
