Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] III. spring song is on track to become the highest grossing film in the Fate franchise. Released August 15, it was recently announced that it had surpassed 1 billion yen in box office revenue – a full day earlier than the series’ last film, lost butterfly. Alongside Heaven’s Feel 3’s incredible box office performance, it was also announced that the film had managed to bring in over 620,000 customers, which is quite an achievement considering that the Coronavirus had previously dampened cinema attendance.
The series’ last film, lost butterfly, managed to gross over 1.5 billion yen domestically by the time of its sixth week of release. Considering how fast spring song’s box office has managed to surpass 1 billion yen, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Heaven’s Feel 3 ended up being the Fate franchise’s most successful film to date. Pushing that trend will be a series of new goods, meant to encourage fans to either go see it for the first time or see it again so that they have an excuse to visit the gift shop.
The goods in question consist of clear files printed with illustrations of key moments from the story, so safe to say that there are a fair amount of spoilers – avert your eyes if you’ve yet to see the film!
To a certain extent, Heaven’s Feel 3’s box office going on to be the biggest yet would not be a massive surprise. Each one of Studio ufotable’s films has gone on to beat the other, but it does show that people are at least sticking around. Furthermore, it shows that the film’s multiple delays haven’t had much of an effect – hopefully, that long-term engagement will drive the Fate franchise to even greater heights. Fate route adaptation, anyone?
