Following recent milestones by Takanashi Kiara and Ninomae Ina’nis, the English-language branch of hololive (otherwise known as hololive EN) has achieved a very rare feat: all of its creators have surpassed over one million subscribers.
The first hololive EN member to hit one million subscribers was Gawr Gura, back in October 2020. Since then, she has rapidly grown in popularity to the point where she is on the verge of overtaking Kizuna AI: just 180,000 subscribers lie between her and the first real VTuber.
It took until January 2021 for anyone in hololive EN to match this feat, and who better than the rapping reaper Mori Calliope? No doubt she was propelled by the popularity of her debut album, while Amelia Watson then followed in February of the same year. Kiara and Ina, meanwhile, both managed to surpass one million subscribers within literal days of each other.
For Ina, it was 27 May: eating some spicy noodles, she was more or less taken by surprise, having planned to do a proper countdown celebration but gaining more subscribers than she expected in recent weeks. Kiara, though, saw the milestone in with style on 30 May thanks to a twelve-hour endurance stream. Nice.
It is very rare for an entire generation of VTuber talents to reach one million subscribers. There are plenty of creators who never achieve this milestone, to say nothing of the speed at which hololive EN has accomplished this: it hasn’t even been one year since they first debuted!
On the whole, this proves that virtual YouTubers are no longer a uniquely Japanese phenomenon and can work on an international scale. What’s more, it puts hololive EN and Cover Corp in a very strong position ahead of the launch of a second generation, auditions for which were held back in February.
No doubt even more exciting things are being planned for the future.
