I’m going to be brutally honest here, when the year started I knew there were going to be a bunch of EVANGELION collaborations happening with EVANGELION 3.0+1.0 releasing, but boy did I underestimate just how many collaborations there would be going on. Across the years, from shaving accessories, underwear, trains, snacks, and watches, it seems that there isn’t a market that EVANGELION can’t reach. Hot on the tails of the Garmin Instinct EVANGELION watch, Belgian watch manufacturer Ice Watch has announced their own collaboration timepiece.
Based on the Belgian company’s Ice Watch brand and design, there will be a total of 5 types of collaboration watches offered to EVANGELION fans, “Unit-01 (Shinji Ikari)”, “Unit 00 (Rei Ayanami)”, “Unit 02 (Asuka Shikinami Langley)”, “Mark.06 (Kaworu Nagisa)” and “Unit 8 (Mari Illustrious Makinami)”. The camouflage dials of each of the five are decorated with the silhouettes of each Evangelion and their pilots. In the case of the Unit-01 watch, the number 1 is printed on the dial, and in the case of the Unit-00, the number 0 is printed on the dial, which is luminescent and glows in the dark. The head of each Evangelion is also engraved on the back of the watch, adding a touch of unique detail to each piece.
Where the watches are simple in design, they are not too nice on the wallet with each timepiece costing ¥17,600 (Approx. $160 USD). But this is a small price to pay to own a piece of EVANGELION history as the watches are limited and will only be sold between August 27th and September 13th. So if this is something that interests you, you can take a look at the different versions here.
As I mention in all of my Japan-exclusive item articles, there is no guarantee that the manufacturer will ship these products internationally, so your best bet is to have a friend in Japan order it for you or to pay a proxy service to place the order for you.
