A special event for Studio MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen anime is scheduled to take place on 13 June, titled ‘JujuFes 2021.’ Streaming online with a limited in-person presence, it will see the voice cast of the anime come together for the first time under one roof, and offers the fan community a chance for celebration.
In attendance at JujuFes 2021 will be all the voice actors for the Jujutsu High first-year and second-year students currently introduced, meaning: Junya Enoki (CV: Yuji Itadori), Yuuma Uchida (Megumi), Asami Seto (Nobara), Mikako Komatsu (Maki), Kouki Uchiyama (Inumaki), Tomokazu Seki (Panda). Yuuichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo) will be there too.
Those wishing to attend JujuFes 2021 in person will have to enter the serial number attached to their copy of the first run of the first Jujutsu Kaisen Blu-ray into a special website and pay 7480 yen, but the event will be livestreamed for the rest of us mortals, too. A slight discount is available to those that purchased the Blu-ray, but access to the livestream will otherwise cost 2750 yen. The site for purchasing both types of tickets will open on 1 April.
If the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie hadn’t already been announced at the end of last week’s episode, then JujuFes 2021 might’ve been a shoe-in for some sort of special announcement. Given the amount of time between now and 13 June, it’s possible that we might get a proper trailer this time (not just animated manga panels), but don’t get your hopes up.
More importantly, JujuFes 2021 offers an opportunity for fans around the world to come together and celebrate the success of Studio MAPPA’s adaptation, precisely because it is streaming online. Usually, fan events like this are held in person, so this is probably yet another example of how the Coronavirus is accidentally making Japanese culture more accessible than ever.
