It’s been nearly a year since jubeat plus was released for iOS in Japan and today the US and UK finally get to join the fun with the totally unexpected release of jukebeat for iOS in both territories!
Much like the Japanese version of the game, jukebeat takes the 16-panel button gameplay from the arcade and ports it to a touchscreen so you can play on the go. As far as the software goes, the base game is up to date with the most recent jubeat plus release, with all of the same markers and both the classic and ripples interfaces available for use. Much like the initial Japanese release of jubeat plus it also features a few free songs, and also includes 4 purchasable song packs with more on the way.
The song packs for the games will run you $3.99 or £2.49 depending on your territory, which is a little bit cheaper but comparable to Japan’s 450¥ per pack. The initial pack offerings include 2 packs featuring songs from the Konami original offerings from jubeat, and 2 licensed packs featuring songs from the rock bands Strike Anywhere and Strung Out.

No word yet on how frequently new song packs are going to be released, but if it’s anything like the Japanese release we can expect them every few weeks. Including more English license song packs along with the Konami originals will make this an interesting complement to the Japanese version for fans playing both, and should hopefully open the game up to an even wide market.
