The live-action movie version of the romantic comedy series Kaguya-sama: Love Is War will get a sequel on 20 August.
The two stars of the film announced their return in a YouTube video. Toho Movie released the video on Tuesday:
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War started out as a manga by Aka Akasaka, and published by Shueisha’s Young Jump. (Technically, it started in Miracle Jump in 2015, before moving to Weekly Young Jump.) An anime adaptation was made in 2019, which was quickly followed by the live-action movie. A second season of the anime started in April 2020.
Love and War
The series tells the story of Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya, student council president and vice-president of the elite, prestigious, and private Shuchiin Academy.
The manga’s original title helps explain the story (translated from Japanese, it sounds a bit clumsy): ‘Kaguya Wants To Be Confessed To: The Geniuses’ War of Hearts and Minds.’
Yes, these two are both considered being geniuses. And they are attracted to each other. But they’re also both kind of naïve when it comes to matters of love and romance. They both also have a bit of pride and tsundere traits. And so, they start a mental battle to see who can get the other to confess first.

Kanna Hashimoto stars as Kaguya in the film. She was also Kagura in live-action versions of Gintama. Sho Hirano will play Miyuki Shirogane. Hirano is a singer in the six-member idol group King & Prince. He has appeared in various TV, stage, and film productions. Nana Asakawa will return as Chika Fujiwara; and Hayato Sano will return as Yu Ishigami. Hayato Kawai will direct.
The film’s official website is here. Crunchyroll has the first season of the anime. Both seasons are available at Funimation.
