Sanrio’s adorable pastel duo Kiki and Lala will be taking over a small part of Shibuya’s Omotesando area from June 27 to July 7 in a space called The Corner, embodied as an exhibit called Kiki and Lala Milkyway Museum. There will also be special limited items added to the menu at the official Pompompurin cafe in Harajuku, including super decorated pancakes and two types of colorful flavored milk drinks.
The museum isn’t going to be your typical exhibit type of show. Liddell, a social media marketing company based in Tokyo, has teamed up with Little Twin Stars to design 7 adorable photo spots that are perfect for taking selfies in. The motif is in celebration of Tanabata, the Japanese Star Festival that takes place every year on July 7. The goal is to project the very essence of stars through the form of a museum where you can interact and take home photo memories. Liddell and Little Twin Stars have painstakingly designed the exhibits almost as if they’re a stage, with perfect lighting even for taking videos. They’ve utilized pink and blue lights to represent the pair, Kiki and Lala. One of the exhibits is a colorful tree made out of clouds that looks like it came right from a dream, complete with a seat underneath so you can look like you’re relaxing in dreamland.
With this museum, there will also be exclusive limited goods released, including little stuffed keychain characters of the specially designed Star Festival Kiki and Lala. They will be available for purchase at some of the Sanrio shops starting June 6. There will also be goods sold that are exclusive to the event’s venue.
If you want to check out the Kiki and Lala Milkyway Museum, you can grab a ticket for 500 yen for advance sale, or for 800 yen on the day. Advanced tickets can be found here.
