Everyone is eager to get rid of 2020, so why not let the Demon Slayer Corps join in the celebration?
Starting on Oct. 29, the Japanese post office will take reservations for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba New Year’s Cards.
There will be four card designs. The Kimetsu no Yaiba website notes that the cards “may differ” from the designs shown. However, I think we can safely assume that they will feature the main characters doing traditional Oshogatsu (Japanese New Year) activities.
For example, one of the illustrations shows Tanjiro and Kyojuro playing hanetsuki, otherwise known as Japanese badminton. Nezuko has some ink and a brush for the first calligraphy of the new year.
And Inosuke is apparently flying a Zenitsu kite. It’s actually a frightened Zeni tied to a kite. It’s cute.
Overall, the cards look nice, with some traditional images along with the anime characters. You can see New Year’s kagami mochi with mikan in the foreground of one of the cards. And in the background is Mt. Fuji, one of the traditional lucky symbols of the first dream of the new year.
Since New Years cards aren’t very useful after January, they helpfully add that cards ordered by Nov. 9 will arrive after Dec. 4. Cards ordered by Dec. 14 will arrive after Dec. 28.
The cards will also be available in-store at post office locations from Nov. 20 to Jan. 8, 2021.
