It’s been so long overdue, but Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is finally back in full force. The self-proclaimed “Queen of Harajuku” today shared her latest single, “Kimi ga Iine Kuretara“, as well as an all-new music video to match. Uploaded to her official YouTube channel tonight, “Kimi ga Iine Kuretara” might just be one of Kyary’s greatest works in recent memory:
Yeah, so this is basically everything I’ve been wanting. While Kyary Pamyu Pamyu never lost her charm, I’m beyond glad to see her back in full form on this one. From start to finish “Kimi ga Iine Kuretara” is a total treat, and the music video is everything I could want and so much more. From the distinctly Kyary quirkiness all the way through to the visual flair, I stan a queen who’s out here posting memes of herself for the sake of her own music video. On a serious note, from the multi-dimension shifting, all the way to the neat arcade fighter-inspired beat down, the song is the perfect look back at the life of one of Japan’s most viral sensations. Props to the scene where Kyary beats down on the person telling her she should get into the “Pon Pon Pon” get-up too.
On top of all this, Kyary’s latest “Kimi ga Iine Kuretara” signals a pretty significant shift for Kyary as an artist. Departing from the major label life she’s been living since “Pon Pon Pon”, Kyary’s now opting for an independent music career focused on global accessibility. There are a few major tonal shifts outside of the obvious with her latest music video, the day one multi-language subtitling, the full music video upload, the 4K resolution. All of this is a global staple for music videos, but not something that was available until now for the pop icon until very recently. With this being the first real tasting of what’s to come, I can’t wait to see what Kyary and her team have planned throughout the rest of 2019.
