It has been revealed that a collection of works of talented P.A Works animator Yuriko Ishii is being released as a book. Titled “Lilium: Yuriko Isshi Animation Works”, the compilation celebrates Yuriko’s 10th year of animation directing. Slated to be released on March 2nd, the book includes art from Yurko’s work on Maquia, Nagi no Asukara (A Lull in the Sea), Kuromukuro, Another, and Persona -trinity soul-.
Working in the industry as a whole for over 20 years now, Yuriko Ishii has a long list of credits as an animator. Her most notable roles include both character designer and animation director for all five of the aforementioned titles. The A4 book contains a grand total of 160 pages of art, the book will feature a wide range of art that she has done over her career. The breathtaking cover art of four of her main heroines (Maquia from Maquia: When The Flower Blooms, Yukina from Kuromukuro, Manaka from A Lull In The Sea, and Mei from Another) is a collaborative effort between herself, Katsue Inoue, Nobuko Mizuta, Mika Sugawara, Kazuki Higashiji, and Tomoyuki Uchikoga.
The book will predominantly include Key Visuals and Magazines illustrations from her five bigger works, as well as some rough sketches and early concept work. In addition, it will also include art from her work on SHIROBAKO, Hanasuka Iroha, and CANAAN.
While the book is receiving it’s full release on March 2nd, more dedicated fans can get their hands on it at the Maquia exhibit at the Yurakucho Marui department store in Tokyo from February 22nd to March 10th, where it will have it’s pre-release run. For those of you lucky enough to go on the 24th, purchasing a copy of the book will enable you to receive an autograph from Yuriko herself, which is definitely a treat to say the least.
If you are a fan of any of the main titles, and are able to get your hands on a copy, I would highly recommended. Compilations like these rarely disappoint, and for a reasonable price of 3240 JPY (approx. 30 USD) it’s hard to go wrong.
