Nintendo’s biggest surprise of all this E3 was the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild getting a direct follow-up. Sequels are few and far between in the franchise, and with how much fans loved Breath Of The Wild, this is welcome news. However, we also got a brand spanking new trailer of the previously unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake. Not only did the trailer show us more gameplay and give us a closer look at its unique art-style, but it also dropped a release date; September 20 of this year. While we wait on our toes for more information of the Breath of The Wild Follow Up, we’ll have The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening to keep us company. Take a look:
The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the Nintendo Switch looks like classic Nintendo at its finest. Cartoony, vibrant, and colorful; this remake looks like a joy to play. One new element added to this version is the dungeon maker previewed in the trailer above. While not as detailed as Mario Maker, you can pick and choose different kinds of rooms and slap them together at your choosing. If you play through them, you get additional items that’ll help you on your quest. It looks like a very cute and fun little addition.
When the first trailer dropped a couple of months ago, some people complained about Link’s look. However, it’s worth reiterating that this artstyle is derived from the animated cut-scenes in the original The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for the original GameBoy. That game was never as popular as Ocarina of Time, Windwaker, or A Link To The Past, but it’s definitely a cult favorite in the franchise history. I wonder if the original’s subtle but confirmed Twin Peaks influence will carry on to the Switch version.
