The Nintendo Switch has been the premier console to play on the go since its release back on 3 March 2017. It has seen a number of revisions to the hardware such as a better battery and the Nintendo Switch Lite portable-only variant of the system. In the last four years since the release of the system, Nintendo has also released several new colorways for the console, including the mega-popular Animal Crossing New Horizons version. Today, they announced a new variant that coincides with the Nintendo Switch release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury: Mario Red and Blue.
The Mario Red and Blue Nintendo Switch takes the iconic plumber’s red and blue outfit and translates it to peripherals for the console. The console will ship with red Joy-Cons with blue strap connectors with red striped straps and blue grips a la Mario’s iconic blue overalls. The dock will be in the Mario red color rather than the standard black dock that normally comes with the system. The Switch console itself will also feature the red tone of Mario’s clothing. As an included treat, Nintendo is also including a Mario-themed carrying case. The system will also come with a screen protector in the box.
The Mario Red and Blue Nintendo Switch will be hitting store shelves at the same time as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on 12 February 2021. As with all special Nintendo Switch console colors, I could see this one being quite a hit among fans and collectors alike, so if you’re looking to get your hands on this version, you would be best off trying to see if your local game store is going to be taking pre-orders on the console or you might have to stand in line early in the morning on the day of release.
