An anime adaptation for Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro is coming during the Spring 2021 anime season, and a first animated trailer for the upcoming series has been released in anticipation!
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro is a web manga published by Kodansha online in Japan and licensed by Vertical internationally, and has been enjoying a lot of success for its fun comedy and the character of Nagatoro. The series centers on Nagatoro when she’s a freshman in high school. She enjoys nothing more than teasing her older classmate, but as you may expect from a series like this, maybe the teasing comes from secretly liking him, and not just wanting to see senpai suffer. The manga’s success earned it an anime adaptation, and earlier today the first trailer for the anticipated new series was released.
From the very opening moments of the trailer, the show does a great job of capturing the playful, sadistic, and toying nature of Nagatoro we’ve seen in previous previews for the anime. It features her introduction to her timid senpai, lingering on the word with a menacing smile. The rest of the trailer serves as a fast-paced introduction to the ways Nagatoro likes to mess with her new toy, from the occasional bit of flirting to teasing him over his hobbies or general awkwardness. And yet, the trailer still succeeds at hinting there’s perhaps more going on than meets the eye in terms of romantic feelings.
The series is being animated over at Telecom Animation Film and will be directed by Hirokazu Hanai, both of whom recently worked on Tower of God, with Taku Kishimoto supervising scripts. Misaki Suzuki is in charge of designing the characters for the series, while Gin is composing the music. No specific release date for the series has been released at this time, but the anime is, bar any last-minute delays, on-course for a Spring 2021 premiere in early April.
