It was just the other day that I wrote about the announcement of Japan-based producer Moe Shop’s upcoming digital single “Identity (w/ SEIJ)”. It was honestly quite an exciting moment in time, not only was there a Moe Shop release on the horizon to look forward to, but it was the first original release from them in almost an entire year. Now the day of release is finally upon us, and let me say, Moe Shop absolutely did not disappoint.
It’s been far too long since we last heard from Moe Shop with an all-new original, so to say “Identity” is a breath of fresh air is an understatement. When the track was initially announced, I don’t think anybody going into this knew who featured vocalist SEIJ was. Online searches provided little-to-no results, with all of their social media accounts seemingly blank. With that being said, just because they didn’t have a name to them prior to this release obviously doesn’t mean anything, because SEIJ totally killed it with this performance.
Outside of their musical performances, if there’s any single thing Moe Shop is immediately identified by it’s their vibrant and colorful coverart featuring mascot character Pyua. In this case, we see Chile-based illustrator Crisalys offering her own take on the character and her own visual representation of “Identity”. The end result is absolutely incredible, with Crisalys’ signature giant sneaker stylings working particularly well here.
It was an excellent start to the day getting to listen to this, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store from Moe Shop throughout the rest of 2019. Released earlier today, “Identity (w/ SEIJ)” is available on most major streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music. Those interested in checking it out on their platform of choice, you can visit the single’s webpage, here.
