Nintendo Announces July Update to Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online July 2020 Update

Nintendo Switch Online has been around for a little less than two years and it has already received a bevy of titles from past generation consoles the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo. Starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System at its launch, it’s gathered a total of 53 titles that can be played at any given time. The Super Nintendo side of things has seen less than favorable love from the big N as there is still an extremely limited number of titles available on the console given the fact that the Super Nintendo had a plethora of amazing titles. Nintendo took to the internet today to announce that they will be adding three new titles to their online consoles with the July Update. Two for the Super Nintendo and one for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Starting with the NES, the July Nintendo Switch Online update will see Nintendo adding Electronic Arts “The Immortal”. The Immortal was originally created for the Apple IIGS, which was ported to the Amiga, Atari ST, MS-DOS, NES, and Sega Genesis which sees a wizard is attempting to find his mentor in a large and dangerous labyrinth.

For Super Nintendo, things are looking a little brighter, but also a little strange at the same time.

Finally, we will be able to play one of the greatest games of all time on the platform, Donkey Kong Country. DKC broke barriers and set a standard in platforming gaming which to this day has still stood the test of time. Not to mention that it has some of the best music ever in a video game. Thank you Aquatic Ambiance.

We will also be getting Natsume Championship Wrestling. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a die-hard wrestling fan, but couldn’t we have gotten a better wrestling title for this? Natsume Championship Wrestling isn’t a bad game by any means and realistically, it’s probably one of the better wrestling games of the generation. Honestly, I didn’t even know the title got a US release. I just personally wish we could have gotten something like WWF The Arcade Game or something along those lines.

If you happen to have a Japanese Nintendo Switch Online account, the title line-up that you will be getting is slightly different as instead of The Immortal on NES, you’ll be getting “Gun Dec” by Sega Sammy for NES, Donkey Kong Country for SNES and Shin Megami Tensei for SNES. I personally would have taken Shin Megami Tensei over Natsume Championship Wrestling in a heartbeat.

The titles will be hitting Nintendo Switch Online on July 15th, 2020, and will be available to anyone who has an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Hopefully, as the year starts to come to a close, we’ll start seeing Nintendo update the service with more SNES titles. Until then, I can keep hoping for a day that I get to enjoy Uniracers once again.
