Now that we’re firmly in 2021, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have kicked off festivities surrounding the 25th anniversary of what could be called the most influential game and series of all time, Pokémon. They initially teased the 25th Anniversary during the Macy’s Day Parade back on Thanksgiving in the United States, and today, the official Pokémon Day 25th Anniversary website launched with a polling event: fans can vote for their favorite pocket monster through a Twitter hashtag poll.
Currently, there have been over three-hundred-thousand tweets of people voting for their favorite Pokémon. Participating in the campaign is simple; the hardest part is getting the Japanese name for the Pokémon that you wish to vote for. For instance, let’s say I wanted to vote for Mimikyu (he’s my favorite Pokémon don’t judge me), I would use the following tweet:
So in layman’s terms, it works out to be #○○にきめた with the ○○ being the Pokémon’s Japanese name.
Considering that the poll just opened up a handful of hours ago, it’s super amazing to see just how many people are participating in the poll. The voting ends on 22 February 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Japan Standard Time, so if you were interested in participating, you have a few days to do so.
The Pokémon Day Website is just one of the many events for the 25th Anniversary of the Pokémon series, and I’m very positive that this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is still a ton of time left in 2021, so let’s see what else they have to share with us and enjoy the festivities of the anniversary.
