Just a few weeks back, we wrote a story about Darius Cozmic Revelation coming to Nintendo Switch in February and now it seems (based on some listing from retailers out here in Japan) that we’ll be getting yet another shoot ’em up (SHMUP) to enjoy on the go. That is Raiden IV x MIKADO remix, complete with some new functionality exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. The developers have also teamed up with Game Center MIKADO, a legendary game center out here in Tokyo famous for its retro arcade games, fighting game scene, and SHMUP scene.
I’ve never been really good at SHMUP titles, but the Raiden series has always held a special place in my heart. I’m not too sure why, but it could be the case that it was essentially the first SHMUP that I spent a lot of time in when I played it on my PlayStation console back in the mid-90s. Maybe it could also be that it was the first SHMUP that I legitimately understood its mechanics. Either way, the series is awesome, and now that it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch, I can re-live my childhood once again.
Raiden IV x MIKADO remix will feature a handful of new things to the game, so let’s take a quick look at them: For starters, you can choose the original soundtrack or the MIKADO remix soundtrack. Additionally, the game supports vertical screen play in both table and TV modes, recreating the full arcade experience. There is also a ‘World Ranking Mode’ via online play, and a bevy of play modes such as Arcade Mode, Overkill Mode, Boss Rush Mode, Additional Mode, and Score Attack mode.
Raiden IV x MIKADO remix will be hitting Japanese store shelves on 22 April 2021 for Nintendo Switch. The developer has yet to comment if the title will get a western release.
