You can’t go into the city in Tokyo without seeing at least ten people wearing a pair of the hugely popular Instapump Fury’s by Reebok. They hit the market hard, reaching a fever pitch of popularity again after their initial debut in 1994. Today, two new designs hit the market; a collaboration with Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and Gudetama.
The new designs of the Instapump Fury OG’s come in Hello Kitty’s signature red and white, and Gudetama’s super eggy white and yellow. Both shoes have black accents that give off a mechanical sort of vibe and keep the shoe from looking too cartoonish. The Hello Kitty shoes come across as a more mature shoe, even with the removable red bow on the toe. The subtle black stripes make them fit into any street fashion-oriented outfit. However, the Gudetama shoes provide a bit of a contrast. The shoes are plastered with the eggy boy’s lazy face, and the yellow accent is really bright. You have to squish the button featuring Gudetama’s already suffering face in order to tighten your shoes. In addition to the adult-sized sneakers, Reebok has also designed a tiny pair of the Hello Kitty Instapump Fury OG’s for little babies.
This year marks Reebok’s Instapump Fury’s 25th anniversary since their initial release back in 1994. The collaboration with Sanrio comes as one of their anniversary projects, as Sanrio’s most influential character Hello Kitty has reached her 45th anniversary this year. The Hello Kitty x Instapump Fury OG collaboration released today in Japan ahead of the rest of the world as a special pre-release. The price on these bad boys is 21,600 yen ($200USD), and 7,009 yen ($65 USD) for the child size. They are available in Reebok’s online shop, as well as physical locations in Japan such as the Reebok store in Shibuya.
