Despite the robotic cat’s lack of success in the west, make no mistake! Doraemon is an absolute icon in the world of anime and has been for 50 years now! Fujio F. Fujiko’s original manga passed the half-century mark earlier this year and yet the franchise shows no signs of slowing down, the series’ 40th film opens tomorrow and its 41st is already in the works. Being a superstar, Doraemon has been tapped for a high profile collaboration or two over the years in addition to the $5.5 Billion dollars worth of merchandise alone our blue little buddy has sold alone. This time, ladies fashion giant Samantha Thavasa whipped up some high-end accessories you could take with you anywhere.
Above we have a sampling of each piece in the Samantha Thavasa x Doraemon collection, though most designs do have a variant as well. These wallets and purses will set you back between 10,000 yen and 20,000 yen each, not your cheapest options, but you’ll get a lot of mileage out of the collection. Tasteful and subtle, as long as you like your baby blues and soft yellows, you’ll be able to accessorize with these in your office, at a party, or perhaps even your anniversary dinner.
You might not know it from the name but Samantha Thavasa is in fact a Japanese brand. In an amusing bit of trivia, its founder Kazumasa Terada came up with the name by pulling from the classic American sitcom Bewitched. They’ve grown to be a world-wide entity and they don’t typically indulge in the type of collaborations we cover here, but with Doraemon being such a cultural figure in Japan the team-up makes some sense. If you’re trying to subtely weeb it up at your 9 to 5, you may want to consider these bags and wallets.
