Capcom has been teasing the fifth season for its near-perfect game Street Fighter V Champion Edition for quite some time now. So much that the producer of the title had to give a personal comment regarding it a few months back. Producer Shuhei Matsumoto commented in his video that was posted to their official Twitter page back in mid-December that the Season Five update to Street Fighter V Champion Edition would be coming in February. Today, Capcom announced that they will be holding a special Winter Update live stream on 11 February 2021 to address the upcoming Season Five update and other changes. Previously, Shuhei Matsumoto mentioned:
As specified in the Season 5 roadmap we shared over the summer, our first character, Dan, is still planned for this winter and will be released in February. We understand many of you have been waiting patiently for the release of Season 5, and we would like to report that we are currently working to deliver this content to you as quickly as possible.
Earlier in 2020, the developer announced that the upcoming fifth season will include a number of changes and new characters to the roster, like Dan Hibiki, Rose, and Oro from previous Street Fighter titles and Akira from Capcom’s other fighting game Rival Schools. Based on the wording from Capcom, it seems that Season Five is looking to kick off fairly soon. The part that stands out to me is the ‘other updates’ that they mentioned in the tweet, as that could really mean anything.
The Winter Update live stream kicks off at 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on 11 February 2021. I have a feeling that they will release the first wave of content shortly after the live stream or the following week. But with Street Fighter, anything can happen, and it usually does. But you can bet your bottom dollar that whatever Capcom has up their sleeve with the update info on the Winter Update Livestream, it’s bound to be good.
