It’s been a couple of months now since the conclusion of the Spice & Wolf VR Kickstarter from SpicyTails, and since then we’ve seen the Tokyo-based company piece by piece reveal new moments of gameplay. While a piece of footage uploaded in early February focused on the actual voice acting of characters, this latest video shares a dash more of Holo’s cuter side, showcasing her ability to run a shop and the interactions you’ll partake in.

It’s times like these that I’m very happy to live with a proud owner of a VR headset. It’s been years since I originally watched Spice & Wolf, but seeing this clip definitely brings me back. Originally run as a Kickstarter campaign that garnered over 1,600 backers and 30,978,009 yen (roughly $276,000 USD), an entire 22,978,009 yen more than required, it’s pretty obvious that the support for Spice & Wolf is there.
Set to release on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and PlayStation VR in early 2019, I’ll probably be picking this up on Oculus Quest when it releases for a cordless experience. Handling the game’s planning and scenario is Spice & Wolf’s original author Isuna Hasekura, while the light novel’s illustrator Ju Ayakura is handling character designs. With that in mind, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how the game plays into the overarching story of the light novel.
I’m definitely excited to see how this VR experience plays out, and even if it means Spice & Wolf’s third season is even further away, one can only hope that the amount of support seen here is a tip-off for those in charge.
