Studio TRIGGER could start a lucrative side business animating game openings in addition to other odds and ends. Earlier this year the studio behind Kill La Kill and Darling in The Franxxx animated the opening for WayForward’s latest Shantae game. They had previewed their opening video for 505 Games and Lab Zero Games’ Indivisible a while ago but since the game, first announced in 2015, has been pushed back and back and back it’d make sense for this not to be revealed right away. This new title from the makers of Skullgirls is finally coming out October 8 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and later for the Switch. However, you can binge this cool ass opening right now!
This opening animation for Indivisible was actually created in conjunction with the American animated studio Titmouse. That’s possibly why unlike the Shantae opening, it’s not as noticeably Studio TRIGGER in its art style. However, that doesn’t stop it from being a really engaging little short. Plus, you can definitely see the TRIGGER flourish in fewer upfront aspects, like how the fire is animated and just the sweeping quality of the entire thing. I hope more indie studios do tap TRIGGER for these kinds of openings because it adds a little special something to the experience.
Of course, when it comes to Studio TRIGGER all eyes are on their first feature film Promare which just finished its first week of US-based screenings. There were only supposed to be two nights however distributor GKIDS is adding more evenings at least in certain cities. The Indivisible opening is probably something the Studio animated a long time ago and isn’t in the forefront of their mind, but it’s still cool to get a nice not before seen preview of what they can do.
Indivisible comes out for PS4, XBox One, and PC October 8.
