It’s been a few weeks since I last had the joy of writing about the incredible “IMAGINATION Vol. 1” Virtual YouTuber compilation. I remember when the news sheet for that release was first presented to me, and I think that same feeling of excitement still rings true to-date. The absolute insanity of basically all of my favorite net-age producers from Japan gathering together to work with some of the biggest names in the Virtual YouTuber space to cover the most iconic anime songs of all time? Completely wild. But that was taken ever further tonight with the release of an accompanying music video for Suntory Nomu and Moe Shop’s collaborative cover of “Hare Hare Yukai”, as animated by つづつ (pronounced Tsuzutsu).
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen つづつ jump on a Moe Shop track for animation; just last October we saw their take on Moe Shop’s incredible “Charm (with Puniden)” single. This time, however, we’re seeing their take on the recently-released cover of “Hare Hare Yukai”, and even if it is just a short version, what we’ve seen so far absolutely rules. There’s a whole lot to appreciate in this music video — from the incredible motion graphics to the hyper-unique animation style. Interspliced with つづつ’s animation we see Suntory Nomu’s 3D model dancing over a hypersonic array of colors and imagery. The low-poly spaceship at the start was a very nice touch too.
Originally released as part of RK Music’s “IMAGINATION Vol. 1”, Suntory Nomu and Moe Shop’s incredible “Hare Hare Yukai” cover is definitely a jam. While it doesn’t seem like the full “IMAGINATION Vol. 1” compilation has been made available internationally just yet, here’s hoping that y’all don’t need to wait too much longer, everything on this release is an absolute treasure.
