Every time I write a piece about Nintendo Switch Online updates, it feels like I just wrote the last one a couple of days ago. Today, Nintendo announced the December update to the Online Super Famicom, Super Nintendo, Famicom, and NES virtual consoles, coming to Nintendo Switch Online on 18 December 2020. As with each update, you’re going to get a handful of SFC, SNES, FC, and NES titles, with some of the titles being different between Japan and America.
Let’s take a look at what Nintendo has in store for us this month.
The titles between Japan and America this month are a little different, so we’ll look at the titles included with the USA update first.
The USA update includes Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! one of the best titles for the SNES if you ask me. Nowhere near as good as the first two, but definitely a great title. Then there is the firefighting title, The Ignition Factor, which honestly, I haven’t even heard of. Then we have the side-scroller Super Valis IV and the fighting title Tuff E Nuff. Moving onto the NES, this month’s offering is Nightshade, a 1992 title from Beam Software.
Moving on to the Japanese update.
On the Super Famicom, we have Kuniokun’s Dodgeball, as well as two of the titles in the USA update, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! and The Ignition Factor. After this we have a party game which is a Japan-exclusive title, Sugoi Hebereke. Then moving on to the Famicom, there is Konami‘s Smash Ping-Pong.
I think that the Nintendo Switch Online December update is pretty good and adds a decent amount of diversity to the ever-expanding lineup that is part of it. I’m still counting down the days until they add Uniracer, though.
