Twin Engine and WIT STUDIO made the announcement today that the manga The Girl From the Other Side (Totsukuni no Shojo) will be getting an anime adaptation. Nagabe’s manga was released in 2015 and just finished its run as part of Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden series in today’s issue.
On top of this, WIT STUDIO has also decided to hold its first-ever crowdfunding campaign. It will be launched on Kickstarter from 10 March 2021, aiming to further improve the quality of the full-length production and expand the promotion costs.
A teaser trailer, key visual, and lead cast and staff were revealed for the adaptation.
The manga for The Girl From the Other Side was released in English via Seven Seas Entertainment. Here is an outline:
The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is an all-new manga series that pulls readers into a magical and enchanting tale about a young girl and her demonic guardian. A haunting story of love and fantastical creatures, The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is a gorgeously illustrated manga series. Each volume in the series will be released with a beautifully textured matte finish cover and will include at least one full-color insert.
In a world split between the Inside and the Outside, those living in both realms are told never to cross over to the other side, lest they be cursed. A young girl named Shiva lives on the other side, in a vacant village with a demonic guardian known only as ‘Teacher.’ Although the two are forbidden to touch, they seem to share a bond that transcends their disparate appearances. But when Shiva leaves Teacher’s care to seek out her grandmother, the secret behind her mysterious living arrangement comes to light.
Staff and Cast
The adaptation will be handled by WIT Studio and the staff that was responsible for a 10-minute anime that was bundled with the manga’s eighth volume in September 2019. Yutaro Kubo and Satomi Tani will serve as directors and are currently working on the character designs and screenplay.
Jun Fukuyama will be playing the role of Teacher and Rie Takahashi will be playing the role of Shiva.
Jun Fukuyama had the following to say about his role as Teacher:
I’m Jun Fukuyama, the voice actor who will be playing the role of Teacher in the animated feature film ‘The Girl from the Other Side’.
When I saw the original story, I was drawn into the depths of the story from the impression of a picture book, and I was so absorbed in it that I forgot about my role in the story.
Now, even before starting to play the role, I can feel the difficulty of the role of ‘Sensei’ because I have read ‘The Girl from the Other Side’, and I am determined to do my best to play the role and make everyone enjoy ‘The Girl from the Other Side’ even more.
I’m sure that there will be more information to come, and I’m looking forward to the day when I will be able to play the role of ‘Sensei’ and weave a story with Shiva, while dreaming about how ‘The Girl from the Other Side’ will remain in everyone’s heart after seeing the completed original work and the completed anime.
Please look forward to it.
Rie Takahashi had the following to say about her role as Shiva:
My name is Rie Takahashi, and I’ll be voicing Shiva-chan. Shiva-chan moves around fluffily and sometimes shows a delicate expression. I would like to add my voice to the character, while keeping the atmosphere of the original story in mind.
Jun Fukuyama will be playing the role of Sensei, and I’m very excited to see what kind of conversations and atmosphere he will create!
I’m looking forward to your support!
The Girl from the Other Side does not yet have a scheduled release date, but you can be sure that we’ll bring you updates about this series as soon as we have them.
