Tokyo Skytree’s upcoming Evangelion collaboration is just around the corner, and new images and information make it an event not to be missed.
In October I covered the announcement of an Evangelion collaboration set to take place at Tokyo Skytree to coincide with the upcoming delayed release of Evangelion 3.0+1.0. While it takes the template of other collaborative events at Tokyo Skytree in the past, the promise of an Evangelion exhibition, of photo spots, and of merchandise (and more) make it an exciting event all the same. New information has since been released on this collaboration.
This includes information on how this collaboration will make use of the Skytree Round Theater. This has featured during previous collaborations as a full-deck circular screen that showcases special videos befitting of the collaboration theme. This time the screens will feature footage from the Evangelion TV series set to the iconic ‘A Cruel Angel’s Thesis’ theme. The mascot for Tokyo Skytree will also get an outfit swap to look like the undisputed best character from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, Ayanami Rei.
The Tenbo Galleria exhibition has also been previewed here, showcasing how the gallery would detail information about the history of the Evangelion series and movies, with the Tokyo Skytree elevator up to this high-point gallery being decked out in Evangelion paraphernalia.
Finally, merchandise and food for the event has been previewed. We knew the cafe in Tokyo Skytree would receive a special themed Evangelion menu, and the new images showcase a range of themed drinks based on each character. Merchandise ranges from shirts to acrylic stands to cookies to glass bottles and more.
Finally, preview images for the special lighting for Tokyo Skytree, themed after the series’ characters, has been shown off. Tokyo Skytree will be lit up in celebration of this collaboration every night from 23 December until 31 December, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Between photo spots, exhibitions, and more, the Tokyo Skytree Evangelion event will be worth visiting if it’s safe for you to do so. The event will run from 23 December until 31 March 31. Anime movie Evangelion 3.0+1.0 is set for release on 23 January.
