Not a stranger to the Evangelion series, UCC Coffee has been featured as a main-stay drink within the anime since its inception back in the ‘90s. This has been reflected in real-world cans being adorned with the characters of the series. This has since become a tradition with UCC and Evangelion that any time a new Evangelion release happens, there are commemorative cans released in its honor.
The next, and possibly final, series of cans have been announced and they are in relation to the release of Evangelion 3.0+1.0. There is a total of 6 cans featuring the art of the characters from the movie. The characters available will be Rei Ayanami, Asuka Shikinami Langley, Shinji Ikari, Kaworu Nagisa, Mari Makinami Illustrious, and WILLE. Not only will the UCC Milk & Coffee cans be available for purchase at your local stores, but they will also be available throughout NERV branded vending machines throughout Tokyo from March 23rd until July 19th.
The UCC coffee gained popularity in the ‘60s and remained popular all the way until now. As a fun fact, UCC Milk & Coffee is actually the very first canned coffee to be released in the world. They have become a staple for the Evangelion series and for the release of the new movie, UCC is stating that this is the “Final” project. If this is really true or not is left to be seen but seeing that the movie is supposed to be the final chapter in the Evangelion story, it very well could be the last tie-up as well.
Personally, I’m more interested in finding one of the NERV themed vending machines more so than the UCC coffee. The UCC coffee, in my opinion, is too sweet and I’ve grown to like my coffee black. Those vending machines though are really cool, and it would be awesome to be able to see the fine details on them.
