With the recent release of the 2019 3DCG ULTRAMAN anime series on Netflix, there’s definitely a fresh set of eyes on the 53-year-old tokusatsu series. With a gritty undertone and profusely more violent direction than usual, it’s sometimes difficult to remember that this came out of a 1965 live-action series that pitted a man in a giant rubber suit against other guys in equally giant monster suits. With that being said, the live-action ULTRAMAN series is very much still ongoing, and though it has some pretty significant differences to the recent anime series, it proves an ever-interesting watch.
Announced this morning, ULTRAMAN TAIGA is the latest entry into the legendary franchise. The latest in the “New Generation Heroes” series, ULTRAMAN TAIGA has a few moves up its sleeves to keep you on your feet. You see, not only will the protagonist Hiroyuki Kudo be able to transform into one of the ULTRAMAN heroes, but he’ll actually be able to transform into three: Ultraman Taiga, Titas, and Fuma. Set to begin airing via TV Tokyo from July 6, 2019, the synopsis for the story can be read below:
Aliens have been emigrating to Earth secretly, but only a handful knows about this truth. Living in such a society, the main character Hiroyuki Kudo begins working at a private security organization E.G.I.S. (Enterprise of Guard and Investigation Services). The organization takes care of cases related with aliens, and Hiroyuki works day and night to protect peace.
However, there lies a huge secret in him, which he himself is not aware of. He carries Ultraman Taiga’s “particle of light”.
The new story begins as Taiga’s powers revive from Hiroyuki’s body!
For those familiar with the story of ULTRAMAN, the Ultraman Taiga is actually the son of Ultraman Taro, which puts the series in an interesting position. The villain will be Ultraman Tregear, a relatively recent nemesis who is the direct enemy of Ultraman Taro.
