UNIQLO isn’t the sort of store that you’d usually see re-run a previous collaborative collection; after all, they’re usually too busy working on a dozen other new lines for their ever-growing UT Collections. With that being said, it turns out there are some things they can’t help but bring back — and this might just work in your favor. From August 16, select pieces from UNIQLO’s collaborative KAWS Summer UT Collection will be back from their initial run earlier this year. The pieces will be made available both in-store and online, with customers able to purchase one of each design per-person in an effort to fend off scalpers.
The KAWS Summer UT Collection sees a number of original designs from the graffiti artist-turned-designer placed over UNIQLO’s standard UT blanks. While the original collection saw the prices of these pieces jump from their 1,500 JPY selling point at UNIQLO to almost $60 on the resale market, this re-run will again be sold at the standard 1,500 yen — sorry, resellers. While the original drop contained pieces from the KAWS x UNIQLO x Sesame Street collection, it’d appear that license hasn’t been renewed for the re-run as this time we’re only seeing KAWS’ original designs.
For a street artist who regularly pulls in hundreds on the resale market, the KAWS x UNIQLO collection is definitely an accessible entry point for would-be fans of the creative. Having worked with the likes of BE@RBRICK, Pharrell, COMME des GARÇONS, and so many others in the past, you’ve absolutely seen his signature take on pop-cultural imagery in the past. It wasn’t until I actually received my first KAWS piece for Christmas some time ago that I realized just how frequently I’d been seeing him either; he really is everywhere within the scene.
The KAWS Summer UT Collection will be re-released August 16, 2019.
