I know what you’re thinking and it’s true: A lot of isekai anime series have been made recently. But The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat sounds like it might be an interesting one. The new TV anime series, which will begin in July, is an adaptation of a light novel series by Rui Tsukiyo, known for another recent adaptation that has stirred quite a controversy.
As the name implies, the story involves an assassin who is betrayed and killed by the organization which hired him. He’s brought back to life in another world by a goddess (of course) and given a mission: Kill the reincarnated hero. It seems that the hero will bring disaster to this alternate world, which makes you wonder just how heroic the hero actually is. (This is actually a decent explanation for why bad guy characters in isekai anime series often try to kill the protagonist, as they do tend to introduce chaos into a system.) There aren’t enough anime stories involving assassin protagonists, and this series will toss one into an isekai situation.
Kenji Akabane (Yasuo in Space Battleship Yamato 2199, Teppei in Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki) will play Lugh, the ‘assassination aristocrat.’ Reina Ueda (Ruri in Dr. Stone, Miyako in Wataten!) will voice Dia, a girl with magical talent. Yuki Takada (Aoba in New Game!) will be Tarte, Lugh’s loyal maid. Shino Shimoji (American Beaver in Kemono Friends) will play Maaha.
Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko published the light novels. The anime series will be included in Kadokawa’s Light Novel Expo 2020 (6-31 March), with a live stage performance featuring the voice actors planned for either 6 or 7 March.
