Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Will Release $1,000 Blue-Eyes White Dragon

Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

For the Yu-Gi-Oh! duelist who has everything, Konami has revealed a $1,000 Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Encased in ‘a protective brick of acrylic,’ these silver cards are obviously not the sort of thing you would want to use in a match, although I would love to see somebody try. You’d probably win duels just by showing up with the thing.

All jokes aside, the cards are officially called the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Masterpiece Series: Platinum Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG recently offered these cards as the grand prize in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links 4th Anniversary Tournament’s Virtual Seto Kaiba Challenge. Of course, you had to battle your way to the top, and defeat Seto Kaiba (voiced by U.S. voice actor Eric Stuart, no less) to win.

The cards are ‘99.9 percent pure silver, burnished to a platinum-colored finish.’ They say that pre-orders will begin in Spring, and they will be shipped in Summer.

As it so happens, even ‘ordinary’ Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards are quite rare and valuable, with first-edition cards selling for ridiculous prices. So, that $1,000 price tag for the card might actually be a bargain.

In Europe (also the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania), you can get the cards for 1,000 euros. Given current exchange rates, the North and South American cards are actually $176 cheaper than the European ones. (If they’re selling them in Japan, I can’t find it on the website.)

According to both U.S. and Europe websites, only 1,000 of these cards will be produced, although it’s not clear if it’s the same 1,000 cards in both markets.
