It’s been years since the last time I played the original RPG Maker version of Yume Nikki, but even to this day I still find myself looking back on it. It was this surreal little indie sprite-based title akin to many of the other games I was playing at the time, but there was something different about this one. There’s a very good reason that myself and so many others hold Yume Nikki so close to heart, and that’s why it piqued so much interest when they announced that the original creator would be returning to oversee an all-new 3D remake of the game on PC.
It’s been almost a year now since the 3D remake, YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-, released on PC, and now we’re finally going to see it branch out onto consoles with an upcoming Nintendo Switch port — made available in English no less. Set to release on the Nintendo eShop on February 21, 2019, the upcoming Nintendo Switch port aims to bring YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-‘ unique psychological horror puzzle platforming to the hybrid console.
While the modern rendition of the RPG currently has somewhat mixed reviews on Steam, I’ve still been dying to give it a try regardless. Unfortunately given the game only ever saw a PC release, I was uncertain if I would actually get that chance up until now, so the announcement of a Nintendo Switch port is certainly welcome news. Especially given that the original creator of Yume Nikki, Kikiyama, is involved, I’m just glad to be able to show some support.
With just a couple of weeks ago, the title is set to release on February 21 on Nintendo Switch. For those interested in checking out further details on the upcoming port of YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY-, you can make your way over to the game’s official website.
